Challenge

Designing an artwork that is visually appealing and resonate with women in the context of Women's Day.

The main challenge was to choose the small business owner and ideate how we can make a part of their day better.

Meet Gomathi akka!

For Project Aval, we chose Gomathi Akka, a beloved flower vendor whose vibrant personality brightens our day every time we buy flowers from her. Her warmth and kindness make each purchase a delightful experience. We wanted to celebrate Gomathi Akka by giving her stand a complete makeover. When we proposed the idea to her, she was extremely happy and excited, making this project even more special for all of us.

Goal

After careful selection, we decided the artwork should emphasize the correlation of women and flowers.

Especially in Chennai, flowers are an integral part of most women. Women of all ages can be seen adorning it on a daily basis. This is the theme we wanted to capture with the illustration.

Result

Heartfelt Makeover for Gomathi Akka's Flower Stand

The project was a resounding success. Gomathi Akka loved the makeover, and the redesigned stand brought immense joy to her. Remarkably, the illustration featuring four women perfectly mirrored her life, representing her two daughters, herself, and her mother. This serendipitous connection made the project even more meaningful and celebrated the strong women in he life.
